Student answer (Band 6.0)

People often argue that due to the technological advancements like internet, and affordable international trips have given access to the local people to know about international lifestyles and culture. While it promotoes harmony, unity and communication but can make people insecure as well.

Nowadays, social media apps like facebook and instagram provide platform to connect with people out of your local domain. This idea seems fascinating as you can get to know about others' countrys, economy, lifestyles and culutre through personal experiences. Furthermore, it helps to shatter the negative image of a country that is made out due to political reasons. For instance, Pakistan has been branded a terorrist country in the past, but since outer world people had personal interaction with pakistani locals, they actually appreciated beauty and hospitality here. Most importantly, this communication provides a sense of unity that despite being divided by lands and ploitics, at the end we all are mere human beings with similar values and morals.

While getting engage with international people seems captivating, but it can introduced restlessness and panic in local community as well. People, those who are poor or can not afford to move abroad often fantasize the luxurious world out there, this leads to emotions like insecurity and vulnerability, so they try all unlwaful means to travel abroad which results in serious punishments by the law.

In conclusion, ease of international travelling and access to mass media has both advantage and disadvantge. But in my opinion advantages overweigh the disadvantge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of global connectivity, culminating in a clear position in the conclusion that advantages outweigh disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly in the second paragraph where the writer explains how social media helps shatter negative images of countries like Pakistan through personal interaction. However, the development in other sections feels somewhat constrained. For instance, the negative impacts of restlessness and illegal travel are introduced but touched upon rather briefly without deep elaboration. The response does meet the minimum length requirement. To achieve a higher band, the student should ensure that all main ideas are explored with equal depth and supported by more comprehensive examples, aligning more closely with the Band 7 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a clear overall progression with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs addressing each side of the argument, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the benefits of media in paragraph two and the psychological drawbacks in paragraph three. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical. For example, the sentence "While it promotoes harmony... but can make people insecure as well" exhibits grammatical awkwardness and a flawed cohesive structure ('While... but'). Furthermore, referencing and transitional phrases like 'getting engage' and 'People, those who are poor' disrupt the flow. While logical organisation is present throughout, the mechanical use of cohesive devices places this response securely within Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the task, including terms like 'technological advancements', 'fascinating', 'vulnerability', and 'luxurious world'. However, there are numerous lexical and spelling errors that detract from precision. Examples include 'promotoes' (promotes), 'terorrist' (terrorist), 'outer world people' (people from outside/foreigners), 'ploitics' (politics), 'unlwaful' (unlawful), and 'disadvantge' (disadvantage). The writer attempts less common vocabulary, but these inaccuracies in word choice and spelling prevent the response from reaching Band 7. Nevertheless, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication, which is characteristic of a Band 6 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and concessive clauses ('While getting engage with international people seems captivating...'). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('affordable international trips have given', 'this leads to'), incorrect prepositional usage ('out of your local domain'), and faulty participle phrases ('While getting engage'). Punctuation and spelling errors also occur throughout the text. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the response from achieving a Band 7, making Band 6 a fair and accurate assessment.
