Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task partially, discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of mass media and international travel. However, the position is not always clear, and the ideas presented are limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention of 'cheaper flight easily travel' is loosely connected and lacks elaboration. Similarly, the discussion on drawbacks touches upon fake news and cultural loss, but these points remain superficial without concrete examples or sufficient extension. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop each main idea with relevant supporting details and maintain a clearer, more consistent position throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some basic organisation in the essay, attempting to separate advantages and disadvantages, but there is no clear overall progression. The writing lacks standard paragraphing, with dense blocks of text and run-on sentences that blur the logical flow. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or repetitive, relying heavily on basic conjunctions like 'and' or repetitive phrases such as 'also spread their cultures'. Referencing is also weak, making it difficult to follow the precise relationships between ideas. To improve coherence, the student should structure the essay into distinct introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs, using a wider range of appropriate cohesive devices to signal transitions between arguments clearly.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The lexical range is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic ideas about mass media and travel. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'custom and traditions', 'rumours', and 'personal life', but noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling—such as 'recently decades', 'bed side', and 'Vasant culture'—cause some difficulty for the reader. Additionally, collocations are frequently unnatural. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to correct word forms and spelling, and use terms with greater precision and stylistic awareness.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple or poorly linked clauses. Attempts at complex sentences are generally faulty, as seen in tangled constructions like 'from my point of view mass media is good for travelling to another country in know about their culture...'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text. These frequent errors often blur the meaning and cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer must practice constructing accurate simple sentences before attempting complex ones, while focusing heavily on controlling basic grammatical patterns, punctuation, and verb tense consistency.
