Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response only partially addresses the prompt because it is significantly under the minimum length requirement, containing only 121 words compared to the required 250. Furthermore, the content stops abruptly in the middle of a sentence, preventing a full discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of international travel and mass media. While the writer manages to state a basic position and introduces a few relevant ideas—such as increased respect for cultures and the drawback of cyber bullying—these points remain severely limited and under-developed due to the lack of adequate extension and the incomplete nature of the text. To reach a higher level, the writer must fully develop all parts of the task with supporting examples and meet the required word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organization evident in the attempt to introduce the topic and use transitional phrases like 'On the one hand', but the essay lacks a clear overall progression because it cuts off abruptly in the second paragraph. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat repetitive or mechanical way, and referencing is occasionally unclear. Paragraphing is initiated, but the unfinished nature of the text prevents a fully structured conclusion or well-managed body paragraphs. To improve, the writer needs to ensure logical sequencing from introduction to conclusion, use a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices, and complete the thoughts within fully formed paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for expressing simple ideas, featuring basic terms alongside attempts at less common phrasing such as 'foreign lifestyle' and 'widely recognised'. However, there are noticeable errors in spelling, such as 'foriegn', 'comapred', and 'convience', as well as word choice issues like 'mocking by haters'. These lexical errors and spelling mistakes cause some minor difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical range, demonstrate better control of less common vocabulary and collocations, and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple constructions and basic complex forms, some of which are faulty, such as 'led to increase in exposure to foriegn lifestyle'. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('rise of different kinds', 'as compared to past'), preposition errors ('exposure to foriegn lifestyle'), and punctuation issues like the double space before 'increasing'. These frequent errors require some effort from the reader to parse the meaning. To progress, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures while improving grammatical accuracy and control over basic syntax.
