Student answer (Band 7.0)
In recent times, international travel digital media have guranted people unusual insights into foreign cultures and lifestyles. Although this exposure can occasionally lead cultural homogenization and unrealistic expectations, I firmly belive that the advantages-namely enhanced cross-cultural and broader economic opportunities-significantly outweigh these drawbacks.
On the one hand, two main concern are associated with heightened global exposure. First, the dominating influcence of western media can lead to cultural erosion. As globalised consumer habits, values and entertainment proliferate, unique local tradition and indegionous language or other activities people like to join from other corner of globe. Secondly, media representation of a life in wealthier nations often present a idealised narratives of high living standards. This distorted portrayal can foster widespread disconnection among the citizens of developing countries or cultivate unrealistic expectations regarding life abroad.
On the other hand, the benfits of this globe interconnectedness are far more profound. Primary among these is the cultivation of mutual understanding and global empathy. By consuming international film and drama, news, content and literature-or through direct travel indivulas can get access to know about and gain deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives. This cross-cultural awareness plays a vital role in reducing xenophobia and promoting global harmony. Furthermore, exposure to international practice and through these source individuals can practice accelerates societal development, as nations can adopt best practices in education, technology and governance to improve their own standards of living.
In conclusion, while the globalization of information and travel carries minor risks of cultural dilution and distored perceptions, its positive impacts are far greater. It expands individuals horizons, foster international cooperations, and serves as a powerful catalyst for socio-economic progress.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, presenting a clear position throughout that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The writer explores both sides of the argument, discussing cultural erosion and unrealistic expectations on one hand, and cross-cultural empathy and socio-economic progress on the other. Ideas are generally well-extended and supported with relevant reasoning, fulfilling the requirements for a solid performance at this level. To reach higher bands, some of the supporting points could be further developed with more specific, concrete examples rather than relying solely on general statements, such as elaborating further on how specific nations adopt best practices in education or technology.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Information and ideas are coherently arranged, with each paragraph having a distinct focus. The introduction sets up the writer's stance, body paragraphs are demarcated with appropriate transitional markers such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', and the conclusion successfully summarises the main arguments. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, though there is occasional slight mechanical phrasing. To move to the very highest bands, referencing could be managed with even greater subtlety, and the flow between individual sentences could be made entirely seamless without relying on standard formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common items with some ambition, such as 'cultural homogenization', 'xenophobia', and 'catalyst'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-form errors that prevent a higher score, including 'guranted' for guaranteed, 'indegionous' for indigenous, 'benfits' for benefits, and 'distored' for distorted. While these occasional inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, they reflect the typical lexical limitations of this band. To achieve a higher score, the vocabulary must be used with greater precision and fewer mechanical slips in spelling and word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some command over sentence architecture with structures like concessive clauses ('Although this exposure can occasionally lead...') and relative clauses. However, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing prepositions or articles ('lead cultural homogenization' instead of 'lead to cultural homogenization', 'present a idealised narratives' instead of 'present idealised narratives'), subject-verb agreement slips, and awkward phrasing ('or other activities people like to join from other corner of globe'). These errors occur frequently enough to prevent the achievement of error-free complex sentences typical of higher bands, though they rarely impede overall comprehension.
