Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of international travel and mass media, fulfilling the core requirements of the task. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and partial. For instance, the discussion around negative impacts introduces ideas about media travel and relationships between nations, but these points are under-developed and lack clear, logical expansion. While the writer takes a clear position in the introduction and conclusion, the supporting arguments in the body paragraphs occasionally drift into repetitive statements rather than extending specific examples. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to fully elaborate on ideas with well-supported arguments and precise examples that directly connect to the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure dividing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Progression is visible as the writer transitions from disadvantages to advantages using standard cohesive devices such as 'On one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in abrupt shifts between ideas within the second paragraph. Pronoun referencing and logical links between sentences can be imprecise, occasionally disrupting the flow of the argument. To achieve a higher band, the writer should ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and smoothly, and that each sentence clearly connects to the central theme of its paragraph to establish an unmistakable progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey basic concepts related to travel and media. There are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling, such as 'belived', 'peopels', 'differents', 'negetive', 'resuilts', and 'miss-informations', which reflect a restricted control over word forms. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'advantageous' and 'relationships', inaccuracies in usage occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve in this area, the student must focus on expanding their vocabulary range, paying closer attention to word formation, and eliminating frequent spelling mistakes to ensure smoother communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response employs a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on basic patterns alongside attempts at complex sentences that frequently contain errors. There are numerous grammatical inaccuracies throughout the text, including tense inconsistencies, missing or incorrect articles, and issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'media's are tend' and 'goverment should implement'. Punctuation and preposition use within grammatical patterns also show persistent flaws. These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to increase their control over complex grammatical structures, ensure correct verb forms and agreement, and reduce the density of basic grammatical errors.
