Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response gives a clear overall view that mass media has more advantages, and it mentions relevant areas such as public awareness, tourism, reporting on disasters and political pressure. However, it only partially addresses the question: the prompt concerns how travel and mass media help people understand life in other countries, while the essay focuses almost entirely on mass media and does not explain international travel or cross-cultural understanding. Several points are asserted rather than developed; for example, the link between tourism advertising and benefits to society is not supported with a specific example. To strengthen the response, address both developments directly and explain how each advantage or disadvantage affects people’s knowledge of other countries.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an opening, an advantages paragraph, a disadvantages paragraph and a conclusion. The sequence from benefits to drawbacks is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Secondly” and “However” help indicate the direction of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: several different ideas are placed together without clear links, particularly the shift from tourism promotion to freedom of speech and reporting on disasters. Some transitions are mechanical, and references such as “this kind of info” and “these kinds of media” are not always precise. Group related points, use clearer topic sentences, and explain how each example connects to the main argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some topic-related vocabulary, including “transparency,” “tourism,” “freedom of speech,” “natural disaster” and “ground reality.” These choices show an attempt to discuss media and society, but the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “a agenda,” “media repoter job,” “wiling to travel” and “publise on ground reality.” Spelling errors such as “disadvatages” and “bussiness” also reduce clarity. Build a more precise set of collocations for discussing international awareness, and check spelling and word forms carefully. For instance, use “media coverage” rather than “covering” when referring to news reporting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to use more than simple sentences, including clauses beginning with “so” and “if,” and the essay’s broad meaning can usually be understood. However, grammatical control is weak: errors are frequent and sometimes distort relationships between ideas. The opening, “The international connectivity are surging,” has an agreement error and an unclear sentence structure; “If media have freedom of speech they also publish…” lacks clear punctuation and a well-formed connection between its clauses. Other examples include “some governments hates” and “banning can happens.” Sentence boundaries and capitalization are also inconsistent. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and verb forms, and use shorter, complete sentences before attempting longer structures.
