Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, the ability to travel around the world and the advancement in digital media worldwide have made it easier for individuals to know how others live in their respective countries. The benefits of this greatly outwegh the drawbacks. In this essay, I will discuss the advantages of international travel and media in understanding how others live.
Many countries have made it simple to obtain visit visas for tourists who would like to explore. They have made this possible through electronic visas on arrival. This has gone a long way in encoraging many explorers into the country and in turn, more people come and they interact with the natives. For instance, South Africa has adopted a sytsem which tourists can obtain visas on arrival via an electronic system while at the airport. As a result, it has experienced an increase in the number of yearly visits to the country as compared to prior years.
Documenting travels is a popular trend that has become popular among travellers. This is because of the advancement in technology and the motivation of being able to make money when posting such videos on social media. While in this quest, other people discover new cities, new cultures that the person has experienced as they explore new countries. For example, on Youtube, there are so many travel channels, a person can search for a city and most likely there is a person who has visited it. Therefore, people's way of life can be learnt through online souces without actually going to the actual place.
However, we must ackowledge that peoples privacy may be breached in learning how others live their lives. This however is an uncomfortable occurance that yields a better benefit. Measures to ensure that the recording and travels do not interfere with the culture and well-being of people can be put in place to curb this.
In conclusion, the simplicity of international travel and the distribution of different types of mass media around the world have made it accessible for people to know how individuals in other nations live. This essay has discussed how the advantages of this greatly outweigh its disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, and the essay gives relevant reasons involving direct contact with residents and online travel content. The examples of tourists interacting with locals and viewers learning about cities help address how people gain knowledge of life elsewhere. However, the discussion of advantages is more developed than the disadvantage: privacy is mentioned briefly, but the claim that its effects are outweighed is asserted rather than explained. The visa example also focuses mainly on increased visits, so its link to understanding local lifestyles could be made more explicit. Develop each point with a clearer explanation of its impact and support the comparison between benefits and risks.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for two advantages, a paragraph acknowledging a drawback, and a conclusion. The progression from travel to online media is easy to follow, and examples generally appear alongside the points they support. Some linking is mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “This” and “Therefore,” and the conclusion largely restates the introduction rather than drawing the comparison together. In the privacy paragraph, “This however” has an unclear reference, making the relationship between the concern and the response less smooth. Use more precise referencing and vary transitions, while ensuring each paragraph develops one central idea in a logical sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “electronic visas,” “natives,” “documenting travels,” “social media,” and “privacy.” These choices make the subject clear, and phrases such as “interact with the natives” and “people’s way of life” are relevant to the task. There are, however, some spelling errors and imprecise or awkward expressions, including “outwegh,” “encoraging,” “sytsem,” “souces,” and “uncomfortable occurance.” “The distribution of different types of mass media” is also less natural than a more direct phrase such as “the global spread of mass media.” Check spelling carefully and build more precise collocations so your vocabulary sounds natural as well as relevant.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “While in this quest, other people discover…” and the relative clause “a person can search for a city and most likely there is a person who has visited it.” Meaning is generally clear, and several sentences are controlled. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain: “a person can search for a city and most likely there is a person” joins independent clauses with only a comma, while “Measures to ensure that the recording and travels do not interfere…” has an awkwardly constructed subject. The sentence beginning “This however” also needs punctuation around the interrupting word. Continue using varied structures, but review clause boundaries, sentence subjects, and punctuation to make the writing more consistently accurate.
