Student answer (Band 6.0)

There are discussions that Mass media and international travel in all around the world have made it more ever for individuals to have knowledge about how other people live in other nation. I personally believe positives of this development outweights the negatives.

One benefit of mass media and international travel is that they help people to learn about other cultures. this is because individuals can learn about traditions, lifestyle and variety of religious beliefs as well geography of nation. For instance majority of people worldwide were unaware about andaman and nicobar islands but after mass-media speard the detailed awareness and pictures of island the islands became known and famous and new things were discovered like tribal population. Although the exploration is banned but the popularity benefited the india's economy as india controls the islands and individuals travelled to see island from ships and boats.

Other thing is there are certain types of sterotypes of some nations and natives and individuals who are unaware might believe them so to counter that problem mass-media provides very good help as people can see ground reality even from home and travelling to that nation can provide very good knowledge and personal clearance. For example there were wrong stereotypes about haitis traditions individuals believed native ate certain types of domestic animals like dogs and cats but when people started to travel there and explored they found they were wrong and it was a false information overtime news spread and eventually individuals globally became more aware and it also benefited haiti.

In conclusion, international travel and mass media contributes to new exploration and social awareness about certain regions and well it helps in elimination of stereotypes as well spread knowledge globally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you believe the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, and the conclusion restates this view. Both body paragraphs give relevant advantages—learning about cultures and challenging stereotypes—and the Andaman and Haiti examples help illustrate them. This covers the task and shows some development beyond simply listing points. However, the response focuses almost entirely on benefits and does not explain any disadvantage or weigh the two sides explicitly, despite the question asking whether advantages outweigh disadvantages. Some supporting details, such as the economic benefit to India and Haiti, are asserted rather than clearly explained. To strengthen the response, acknowledge a plausible drawback and compare its significance with the benefits, while developing the examples more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with separate main ideas, and a conclusion. The progression from cultural knowledge to correcting stereotypes is logical, and phrases such as “For instance” and “For example” signal supporting evidence. However, connections within the examples are sometimes difficult to follow, particularly the sequence about the islands becoming known, exploration being banned, and the economy benefiting. Some linking is also mechanical: both body paragraphs begin with a broad benefit followed by an example, while the conclusion mainly repeats the points. Clarify how each example supports its paragraph’s claim, use referencing more precisely, and make the comparison between advantages and disadvantages part of the overall progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “traditions,” “religious beliefs,” “stereotypes,” “ground reality,” and “social awareness,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “tribal population” and “exploration.” However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear: “outweights,” “speard,” “sterotypes,” and “personal clearance” are examples. Phrases such as “very good help” and “new things were discovered” are also vague or unnatural for an academic essay. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe media as “raising awareness” and travel as “providing first-hand insight.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including explanations with “this is because” and a contrast introduced by “Although.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but some sentence structures and grammatical forms are inaccurate. For example, “There are discussions that … have made it more ever” is not a well-formed opening, and “mass media and international travel … contributes” has a subject–verb agreement error. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent in phrases such as “other nation” and “the islands became known.” Several long sentences, especially the Andaman example, need clearer punctuation and clause boundaries. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries during revision.
