Student answer (Band 5.0)

In today's competitive world, international travelling and differet kinds of mass media have globally made it more possible than ever for people to understand the survival of people in other countries. Although this development rise several disadvantages, I believe that its advantages are more significat. This essay will shed light on both advantages and disadvantages of this development.

One of the main reasons why competition is benificial is that people explore various aspects and features of other countries. They also learn multi-languages which help them to communicate and achieve better jobs. For example, my cousin travel to Qatar and learned arabic and get a favourable job. Therefore, it is evident that travelling can play a vital role in personal develoment.

On the other hand, some evident disadvantages are also witnessed. Significant increase of population is one of the reasons which creates a main issue in development of any country. For instance, accomodation, basic rights like education, health are the reasons which can not be achieved by an individual easily if there is large population. Not everyone get the luxerious life, nor basic needs. Consequently, the government should take appropriate action to resolve this issue.

In conclusion, although there are many disadvantages like lack of basic needs of life are there as one of the hurdles. I believe international travelling and the spread of various kinds of mass media have a positive impact on development and growth. This is primarily because of multiple job opportunities, more interactive plateforms and better lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a position—that the advantages are more significant—and include both a benefit and a disadvantage, so the response is relevant to the question. However, the discussion only partially addresses the specific development: the benefit paragraph focuses on travel, language learning and employment, while the population and basic-needs paragraph is not clearly explained as a consequence of people learning about life abroad through travel or media. The essay also promises to discuss both sides but gives little comparison to show why the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The conclusion repeats your view without resolving that comparison. The response is 18 words below the required minimum, which further limits the space available to develop and support your ideas. Explain the connection between each point and the prompt, and extend your examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable essay structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” helps readers identify these stages. However, progression within the argument is limited, and some links between ideas are unclear. For example, the paragraph about population growth moves to accommodation, education and health without explaining how international travel or mass media causes these pressures. The conclusion introduces “more interactive platforms” and “better lifestyle,” which have not been developed earlier. Build each body paragraph around one clear point, explain its connection to the question, and use examples that directly support it. This would make the organisation more coherent rather than relying mainly on transition phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “personal development,” “multiple job opportunities” and “basic needs,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the argument less clear. For instance, “understand the survival of people” does not naturally express learning about how people live, and “competition” is not the development being discussed. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “differet,” “significat,” “benificial” and “accomodation.” Choose precise topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully. Replacing vague or unsuitable phrases with natural expressions about cultural awareness, international exposure and media access would make your ideas clearer and more appropriate for an academic essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, including “Although this development rise several disadvantages” and “if there is large population.” This shows an effort to vary sentence forms, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction recur. For example, “my cousin travel to Qatar and learned arabic and get” shifts between verb forms; “this development rise” needs a correctly formed verb; and “Not everyone get” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. The final sentence of the conclusion is also awkwardly constructed. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and consistent tense, and review articles and agreement. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument easier to follow.
