Student answer (Band 6.0)

Historically, it was traveling aroung the world was not common, because just a few number of affluent citizens could afford it. However, the development of the Internet, tourism and global mass media made it possible for many people to learn more about different cultures that seemed to be isolated in the past. All these changes occured rapidly and brought up a lot of benefits to the society.

I believe that there are several reasons why it is extremely important for everyone to know how people in various countries live. Firstly, learning and understanding the culture may help one to learn the language. That is why, it might be so helpful to use some national mass media websites, newspapers and articles to know more about the complicated features of the language. Secondly, the overall popularity of traveling is extremely beneficial for small countries because the increase in number of visitors can contribute a lot to their budget. Therefore, the poverty rate there may decrease and the economical situation might become more stable. In addition, finding out more about foreign cultures is a great way to understand different the mentality of people around the world. Consequently, it can develop the tolerance, decline the animosity and stop devastating wars among countries.

To sum up, it is obvious that learning more about other countries must be encouraged. People nowadays have a great opportunity to travel and to get information from different kinds of mass media and it would be quite unwise to destroy such connections

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You present a clear overall view that the development is beneficial, and your points about language learning, tourism income, and greater tolerance are relevant to the topic. However, the response only partly answers the central question: it explains advantages but does not identify or weigh any disadvantages, so the claim that the benefits outweigh them is not fully established. Some ideas also need fuller support. For example, you say tourism can reduce poverty and stabilise a country’s economy, but do not explain how these gains reach local people or provide an example. The point about cultural understanding preventing wars is also broad. Address both sides, then compare their significance and support your strongest claims with specific reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph developing several advantages, and a concluding summary. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “In addition,” and “Consequently” make the progression easy to follow, and the conclusion returns to the main position. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, the body paragraph groups several distinct arguments together, and the links between them are sometimes mechanical rather than showing how one idea develops from another. The conclusion also does not weigh advantages against disadvantages. Use separate, focused paragraphs for the main arguments and counterargument, with clearer references and transitions that explain the relationship between points.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “affluent citizens,” “isolated,” “poverty rate,” “tolerance,” and “animosity.” These choices help communicate ideas about travel, culture, and international relations, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at less common expressions, though some are inaccurate or unnatural: “a few number of” and “the economical situation” do not fit the intended meaning, while “different the mentality” is awkward. Spelling slips such as “aroung” and “occured” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and check word forms and spelling; for instance, use “a small number of,” “economic situation,” and “different mentalities.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “because just a few number of affluent citizens could afford it” and a result clause beginning “Consequently.” Most sentences remain understandable, so grammatical errors rarely obstruct the message. Some errors occur in sentence construction and grammatical patterns, however. The opening, “Historically, it was traveling aroung the world was not common,” contains an unnecessary “it” and an awkward clause structure; “the increase in number of visitors” also needs an article before “number.” In “different the mentality,” the structure is incomplete. Review clause formation, articles, and noun phrases, and proofread punctuation: the final sentence needs a full stop.
