IELTS Writing Task 2 question
The ease of international travel and the spread of various kinds of mass media all over the world have made it more possible than ever for people to know how other people live in other countries.
Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence. Write at least 250 words.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The easy access of the broader world through advanced travel has allowed international media to thrive. Our earth has become a global village, giving us an oppurtunity to peek into different cultures and ways of living. While the easy access of information is plausible, there is also an ease in spreading misinformation and hate online.
After the technological revolution, mass media has emerged consisting of active social media presence, global trends and deepened influence. It takes minutes for a news to reach the other end of the world, compared to several days it took previously. Poeple share their daily lives, cultures and family values. Countries engraved in stereotypes are given a chance to battle them and show reality, modern trends have emerged allowing everyone to be a part of them equally. This diminishes the borders between us and allows us to feel closely human rather than solely be tied to our race or culture.
While the deepened roots of international media make the flow of information easier, it is not intelligent to ignore the disadvantages it brings. The flow of misinformation is as easier as it is to spread the right thing. Anyone with an account can speak or share their opinion, allowing spread of mass hate. Racism is very normally exhibited in social media handles such as X. The peek into other people's cultures has also allows others to freely share their hating opinions about them. International media has also used its influence to share biased opinions regarding international issues only allowing one side of the issue to thrive. It has been used as a weapon to spread its influence and is now used by dirty politics to spread their propaganda online.
While the ease of spreading information is indeed a move towards a better and joint Earth, it is not safe to ignore the harm it poses. Careful use of international media should be pertained.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both the benefits and risks of greater international awareness, and your position is that the development is beneficial overall, provided media is used carefully. The benefits paragraph gives relevant points about challenging stereotypes, sharing cultures and creating a sense of common humanity; the disadvantages paragraph discusses misinformation, racism and political propaganda. This covers the task, but some ideas are asserted rather than explained. For example, you say trends let people participate “equally” without showing how, and the claim that media makes us “closely human” could be clarified with a concrete example. The conclusion is also brief and does not explicitly weigh the advantages against the disadvantages. Develop and compare your main points more fully to make your judgement more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on benefits, a paragraph on disadvantages and a concluding statement. The contrast signalled by “While” helps readers follow the shift between sides, and the ideas within each main paragraph are generally grouped by topic. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some features of stronger progression. However, several points are joined in long sequences with commas, particularly in the benefits paragraph, so the relationship between claims is not always clear. The repeated “While” openings and repeated references to “international media” also make cohesion somewhat mechanical. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise links, and ensure each paragraph develops one central point before moving to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “global village,” “stereotypes,” “misinformation,” “biased opinions” and “propaganda.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some less common expressions. At times, however, word choice or collocation is inaccurate or awkward: “the easy access of the broader world,” “a news,” “deepened roots” and “dirty politics” do not sound natural in context. There are also spelling errors such as “oppurtunity” and “Poeple.” These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Prefer familiar, accurate collocations over ambitious phrasing, and proofread spelling. For instance, “access to international travel” and “a news report” would express your intended meanings more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning “While” and the comparison “compared to several days it took previously.” Most of the argument remains understandable, which is consistent with this level of control. Some grammatical errors nevertheless occur. In “The peek into other people's cultures has also allows,” the verb form is incorrect; use “has also allowed.” “The flow of misinformation is as easier as” needs a comparative structure such as “is as easy as,” while “Careful use … should be pertained” does not form a correct passive construction. Some sentences also run together through comma splices, especially in the benefits paragraph. Review verb forms and sentence boundaries, while continuing to practise complex structures.
