Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the era of modern technology, it is now accessible to travel to international countries and to get to know the lives of foreign people with the help of different types of mass media. In my view, it has more advantages than its disadvantages.

One of the major benefits is that people get the chance to explore foreign culture. When people visit other countries, they try their foods and their dressing culture and know about their religious beliefs. Whatever they watch on social media, they want to try in real life. Additionally, they try to communicate in their languages and learn a new language. Consequently, people can differentiate between two different nationalities.

Moreover, people started to trade internationally, which was difficult in early years because there were no communication means, and they also did not know what kind of things they liked. But in today's era of mass media, people easily get to know each other and their lifestyle and their interests. Also with ease of travelling, trading also becomes convinent.

One disadvantage is that people are influenced by their culture and forget their own. When they make their visit to a foreign country, they tend to look like them, which is detrimental for our culture. They also copy their lifestyle on social media like Instagram and Facebook. As a result, with the passage of time, people are setting aside their culture and following others.

In conclusion, accessibility to international travel and getting to know international lifestyles, they explore their cultural values, learn new languages, and also trading becomes easy. One disadvantage is just that they are influenced by their culture and forget their own, but still its advantages outweigh its disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you believe the benefits outweigh the drawback. You address both sides and give relevant points, including cultural learning, language learning, international trade, and the risk of people neglecting their own culture. However, some ideas are more fully addressed than others. The cultural-learning point has examples such as trying foreign food and learning languages, while the trade argument is asserted rather than supported with a specific example or explanation of how greater familiarity leads to trade. The disadvantage is also quite general: explain when cultural influence becomes harmful and whether this is a widespread consequence. Developing these points with concrete examples would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting advantages, a paragraph on a disadvantage, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Moreover,” and “As a result” help show the relationship between ideas, and the reader can follow your main position. This already provides a coherent progression, but some connections are broad or mechanical. For example, “Consequently, people can differentiate between two different nationalities” does not clearly follow from learning languages, and the trade paragraph moves quickly from communication to people’s interests and then to travel. Make these links explicit and use pronouns or repeated key terms carefully so each reference is unmistakable. A more balanced development within paragraphs would also strengthen the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “religious beliefs,” “internationally,” “lifestyle,” and “detrimental.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and you attempt topic-specific expressions rather than relying entirely on basic words. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “travel to international countries,” “their dressing culture,” and “differentiate between two different nationalities.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice issues, including “convinent” and “setting aside their culture.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Choose established collocations and check spelling; for example, refer to travelling abroad, clothing traditions, and distinguishing between cultures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including subordinate clauses such as “When people visit other countries” and “because there were no communication means.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and awkward constructions reduce accuracy. For instance, “people started to trade internationally, which was difficult in early years” has an unclear reference for “which,” while “with ease of travelling, trading also becomes” shifts tense and has an incomplete-sounding construction. The conclusion’s opening, “accessibility to international travel and getting to know international lifestyles, they explore,” is also not a complete, well-formed sentence. Practise building clear subject–verb structures and maintaining consistent tense, while continuing to use complex sentences.
