Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people argue about whether the ease of foreign trip and various kinds of mass media all over the globe made it possible for people to know about cultures of masses living on different countries. The advantages of this development surely outweigh the disadvantages. Because, it is easy to use social media to learn about different cultures and then to travel there and experience it themselves.

On the one hand, there are some pros that people can access the various cultures using multimedia, learn about their livelihood, their customs and events. For instance, people in England can search for the cultures of Asian population using the mass media and learn about their norms and daily practices.

On the other hand, this mass media will attract more international tourists. To illustrate, people will travel to different countries to experience their daily life practices, socialize themselves with other ethnicities and races.

In conclusion, there are more advantages than disadvantages of international trips and mass media coverage of these trips to educate peoples who are not aware of other cultures or norms.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

Your position is clear: you state that the advantages “surely outweigh the disadvantages,” and you give relevant points about learning customs through media and experiencing other cultures through travel. However, the response addresses the question only minimally: it does not explain what disadvantages might arise or compare them with the benefits, and the examples are brief rather than supported with detail. The conclusion repeats the general claim without weighing the two sides. The response is also 171 words, below the required 250 words; 8 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To strengthen the response, develop at least one specific advantage and one disadvantage, then explain why the benefits are more significant, using a concrete example or evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This makes the main direction easy to follow. However, the progression is limited: the first body paragraph gives one example, while the second mainly restates the idea that tourists can experience other cultures, without developing a distinct comparison or linking back to the question of advantages versus disadvantages. Some connections are also awkward, such as “Because” beginning a sentence after the stated position. Build clearer paragraph progression by giving each paragraph one main claim, explaining it, and connecting it explicitly to your overall judgement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “customs,” “norms,” “daily practices,” “international tourists,” and “ethnicities.” These choices show an adequate range for discussing cultural exchange, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, which limits clarity and flexibility: “foreign trip,” “cultures of masses,” and “socialize themselves with other ethnicities” do not express the intended ideas naturally. “Mass media” is also repeated frequently. Aim for more accurate collocations and vary repeated terms—for example, refer to “people from other cultures” and “interact with local communities.” This would make your argument sound more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use mostly straightforward sentence patterns, and the reader can generally understand your main points. There are attempts to connect ideas with clauses, as in “people will travel to different countries to experience their daily life practices.” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and some grammatical choices are inaccurate. For example, “made it possible” does not fit smoothly with the present-day claim in the introduction, while “Because, it is easy” incorrectly separates the dependent clause from the sentence it should complete. The phrase “people … living on different countries” also has an incorrect preposition and structure. Practise combining ideas into complete sentences and checking tense, articles, and prepositions; this will improve control without sacrificing clarity.
