Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, international travel and the spread of mass media have made it easier for people to learn about the lifestyles of people in other countries. in my opinion, the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages because its helps poeple understand different cultures and creates better career opportunities for education and professional.

One major advantage is that people can learn about different cultures and traditions. international travel allows tourist to experience the local food, festivals and lifestyle of other countries. Similarly, television and social media help people see how other live without travelling abroad. For example, indian people can learn about japanees traditions and food by watching videos online. This can reduce misunderstandings and encourage people to respect different cultures.

Another benefit is that international travel and mass media provide educational and economic opportunities. Students can visit foreign countries to receive a better education, while workers can find jobs aborad. Moreover, businesses can use the internet to promote their products worldwide. For insatnce, a small business owner in india can sell handmade products to customers in other countries through online platforms. As a result, people can improve their knowledge and earn more money.

However, there are some disadvantages to this development. People may start copying foreign lifestyles and gradually foreget their own traditions. In addition, social media sometimes presents unrealistic images of life in other countries, which can make peole dissatisfied with their own lives. International travel can also be expensive, and tourism may cause pollution in popular destinations.

in conclusion, although international travel and massmedia can create cultural and environmental problems, I believe their advantages are greater than their disadvantages. They allow people to learn about other cultures, gain knowledge and explore new opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your response addresses both sides of the question and maintains a clear position: you state that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, then acknowledge cultural loss, unrealistic social-media images and tourism pollution before reaffirming your view. The advantages are relevant and supported with examples, such as learning about Japanese traditions online and an Indian business selling handmade products internationally. This fits the descriptor because the main ideas are extended and supported. Some points remain broad, however: the claim that international travel creates better educational opportunities is not illustrated as specifically as the business example, and the disadvantages receive less explanation. Develop these points with a concrete example or a clearer explanation of their impact. The response meets the task’s length requirement; eight words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear, effective structure: an introduction gives your position, two body paragraphs develop advantages, a separate paragraph considers disadvantages, and the conclusion restates your judgement. Progression is easy to follow, and signposting such as “One major advantage,” “Another benefit,” “However,” and “in conclusion” helps readers understand the argument. Examples are generally placed beside the points they support. To strengthen cohesion further, vary the way you connect ideas rather than relying mainly on explicit transition phrases, and make links between related claims more precise. For instance, the education and employment points could be connected more clearly to the broader claim about opportunities, while the disadvantages paragraph could show how its examples relate to the overall comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the argument, including “lifestyles,” “traditions,” “misunderstandings,” “unrealistic images,” and “popular destinations.” Some phrases also show an attempt at more specific expression, such as “promote their products worldwide.” However, the range and control are uneven, with several noticeable spelling errors (“poeple,” “japanees,” “aborad,” “insatnce,” “foreget,” “peole”) and imprecise or awkward wording, including “opportunities for education and professional” and “how other live.” These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Proofread spelling carefully and build more accurate collocations, for example, “professional opportunities” and “people in other countries.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, and several sentences are controlled well, such as “This can reduce misunderstandings and encourage people to respect different cultures” and the sentence beginning “Although international travel and mass media can create…”. Your use of clauses with “while,” “which,” and “because” adds variety. Some grammatical errors remain, including the incorrect subject–verb form in “its helps,” the missing plural in “allows tourist,” and the incomplete phrase “opportunities for education and professional.” Capitalisation at the start of sentences is also inconsistent. These errors rarely obstruct the message, but checking agreement, articles and sentence openings would improve accuracy. Continue using complex structures, while ensuring each clause is grammatically complete.
