IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The graphs below show the number of drivers in Britain who have been caught driving too fast by speed cameras placed on roads, and the number of people killed in road accidents, over an eight-year period since the introduction of speed cameras. The tables show the results of a survey on people's opinions on speed cameras.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The line graphs given illustrate the speed camera fines and road accident fatalities in Britain along with tables showing results of survey of people's opinion reason and number of speed cameras on road and their effects on road accidents.

Overall, there was significant increase in number of speed camera fines on road but road accidents remained almost static with little variation over 8 years. Maximum people thought speed cameras were installed to generate revenue and they did not reduce the accidents.

In the first year, speed camera were 200, 000, which rose gradually to 600,00by the 5th year after that they showed a dramatic increase and reached 1,600,00 by the 8th year.

On the other hand, fatalities due to accident were 3100 in first year of installation of cameras which showed a slight rise and fall in the subsequent years ranging between 3400 to 3000 and finally stood at 3300 at the end of 8th year.

Survey conducted for people opinion reflected that 32% of people thought that camera will reduce the number of accidents, 60% thought it will not reduce while 8% people did not know.

People opinion about reason of installation of camera revealed highest percentage of 71 thought they are installed to generate revenue, 26% thought they are introduced to improve safety while 3% did nor know the reason.

When people were asked about number of cameras on road maximum number of 56% answered they were too many, 19% said they are too few , according to 17% they were about right while 8% did not knew.
