Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graphs and tables, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the trends in fines and accidents, the description lacks precision; for instance, you mention the charges 'dramatically increase' without referencing specific data points or the timeline clearly. The summary of the survey results is also quite brief and misses the opportunity to compare the data points effectively. To improve, ensure you select key features and support them with specific figures from the charts. The overview is present but could be more clearly integrated to highlight the relationship between the variables.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into two paragraphs, which is a logical approach for this task. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'Meanwhile' and 'Conversely' are used, but the flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'the box under the line graph', which is not the most professional way to refer to data. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic that progresses logically from the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, but there are several inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'running the car rashly' is not standard academic English, and 'road caulalities' is a misspelling of 'casualties'. Phrases like 'local's prespective' and 'other reason rather then' also show a lack of precision. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general meaning, the errors in spelling and word choice are noticeable and occasionally impede the flow of the text. Focus on learning standard collocations related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the range of drivers... who is being arrested'), incorrect verb tenses ('the charges... is dramatically increases'), and awkward phrasing ('the amount of people died'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of colons and spacing. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors occur throughout the text. To improve, proofread your work specifically for subject-verb agreement and ensure that your verb tenses remain consistent when describing past data.
