Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main trends and provides data points for both graphs. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, the student mentions '2000,000' for the first year, which is confusingly formatted, and states that fatalities 'decreased sharply to 3000' in year five, while the graph shows a different trend. Furthermore, the prompt included tables regarding survey results, which were completely ignored. To reach a higher band, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed and that data is transcribed accurately from the visual aids provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally misused, such as the abrupt transition 'While road accident deaths experienced a fluctuation in eight years' which is a sentence fragment. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing. Improving the use of linking words like 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'furthermore' would help the flow of ideas significantly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'rate of drivers' instead of 'number of drivers' and 'reckless drivers charged with fine'. The spelling of numbers is inconsistent (e.g., '2000,000' and '1,2000,000'), which impacts the clarity of the report. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'a steady decline' or 'a significant surge', and ensure numerical data is presented in a standard, readable format.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the rate of drivers... were') and incorrect article usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help improve your score in this criterion.
