SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graphs illustrate the number of people fined by speed cameras and killed in road accidents in eight years after the installation of speed cameras in Britain. The tables display the report of people's opinions on the installation of speed cameras.
In this period, the fine rate escalated wildly; in 1st year, it was recorded at almost 200,000 GBP, which increased to between 1,600,000 and 1,800,000 GBP after 8 years.
On the contrary, the road accident tragedy graph showed fluctuations throughout the years, starting from 3000 death per year to 3300 death per year approx.
Furthermore, only 32% of citizens believe speed cameras lessened the accident count on the road, but 60% majority hold the opposite view. Regarding the purpose of these cameras, 71% of respondents argued that the primary goal was to raise revenue, compared to 26% who considered road safety as the main reason.
Finally, when asked about the quantity of cameras, over half felt there were too many cameras on the road, while 17% deemed the number to be appropriate

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the key features of the graphs and tables, providing a clear overview of the data. You covered all parts of the prompt, including the trends in fines and fatalities, as well as the survey results. However, there are some inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, you describe the fine rate as being 'recorded at almost 200,000 GBP', whereas the graph likely refers to the number of drivers or a different unit. Additionally, describing the accident trend as 'fluctuations' is slightly imprecise given the overall stability. To improve, ensure you double-check the units and labels on the axes to avoid misrepresenting the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The report is logically organized, with a clear introduction followed by separate paragraphs for the trends and the survey data. You use cohesive devices such as 'In this period', 'On the contrary', 'Furthermore', and 'Finally' to guide the reader through the information. While the progression is generally clear, the transition between the graph analysis and the survey data could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the information is presented in a way that is easy to follow. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices to link sentences more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'escalated', 'fluctuations', and 'respondents' effectively. However, there are some instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'road accident tragedy' and 'lessened the accident count', which sound slightly unnatural in an academic report. The use of 'GBP' might be an error if the graph represents the number of drivers rather than currency. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your vocabulary choices are strictly supported by the data provided in the prompt.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some minor grammatical errors, such as '3000 death per year' (should be 'deaths') and '60% majority hold' (should be 'a 60% majority'). Punctuation is generally handled well, though some sentences could be refined for better flow. The errors present do not impede communication, but they do prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and pluralization will help improve your accuracy in future tasks.
