The graphs below show the number of drivers in Britain who have been caught driving too fast by speed cameras placed on roads, and the number of people killed in road accidents, over an eight-year period since the introduction of speed cameras. The tables show the results of a survey on people's opinions on speed cameras.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

The provided line graphs show the number of speeding offenders caught by cameras on Britain's roads and the number of deaths in road accidents over eight years after the cameras were introduced. The table provides the results of a survey about public opinions on speed cameras. the data has been calibrated into numbers and percentages.

Looking from an overall perspective, it is crystal clear that speeding offences rose sharply throughout the period, while road deaths showed only small fluctuations. Most people also believed that speed cameras were mainly used to generate income.

At the start, around 200,000 drivers were caught speeding, and this figure increased steadily to about 800,000 in year five. It then rose sharply and reached nearly 1.6 million by the final year. In stark contrast, road deaths began at just over 3,000, moved up and down slightly, and ended at roughly 3,500.

Moving further, the survey showed that 60% of people felt speed cameras did not reduce accidents, while 32% believed they did. Most respondents (71%) thought the main purpose of installing cameras was to increase revenue, whereas only 26% said they were meant to improve safety. Regarding the number of cameras, 58% felt there were too many, 19% said too few, 17% believed the number was appropriate, and 8% were unsure.
