SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The graph shows the number of drivers in Britain who have caught driving too fast by speed cameras placed on road, where as on the other hand side it shows the number of people killed in road accidents ,over an eight year period since the introduction of speed cameras.
Firstly, here we can see the year in the below of graph and on the right hand we can see the number of speed cameras fine. In 1 year we can see the speed of camera fines is 200,000 Which is the lowest speed camera fine and on 2nd year the fine is between the 200,000 to 400,000 it has been increased in comparison to 1st year . We can see that every year the fine has been increasing constantly. In year 7 the speed camera fines us around 1200,000 which is the 2nd highest fines record in comparison to year 1 to 6. And in the last we can see that in year 8 the highest fines is around 1600,000 . instead of decreasing the fine it shows that the fines has been increasing day by day Which is not good. The driver should mainly focus on the slow drive instead of driving too fast because the driver has to think that someone is waiting for them in home it doesn't matter if you reach 5 min late at time instead of being in accident.
Secondly on the another side of graph we can see that road accident fatalities . In year 1 the road accident fatalities is just between the 3000 to 35000 .And in year 2 and 3 it shows the sme that is 3300 which is the highest road accident fatalities in comparison to other year. In year 4 to 8 we can see that it's disbalance sometimes it's increasing and sometime it's decreasing too.
Well, i don't think that speed cameras reduce the number of accidents on the road. And basically the main reason for installation of speed cameras is to improve road safety. And i also think that the number of speed cameras on the road is too few.
Lastly, drive slow and think that someone is waiting for you at home to come back.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of providing an objective summary of the data, the student includes personal opinions ('I don't think that speed cameras reduce the number of accidents') and advice to the reader ('The driver should mainly focus on the slow drive'). In IELTS Academic Task 1, you must remain neutral and avoid personal commentary. While the student attempts to describe the trends in the graph, the data interpretation is often inaccurate (e.g., misreading the fatality figures as 35,000). The response lacks a clear overview of the main trends, which is essential for a high score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is hindered by the inclusion of irrelevant personal opinions. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', but they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between describing the data and offering personal advice is abrupt. The overall structure does not follow the standard format for a data report, which requires a clear introduction, a summary of key features, and detailed comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the below of graph' instead of 'the bottom of the graph' and 'disbalance' instead of 'fluctuation'. The student relies on basic phrasing to describe trends, such as 'it has been increasing', without using more precise academic vocabulary like 'upward trend', 'fluctuated', or 'peaked'. The language used is more appropriate for an informal letter or an opinion essay than an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the fine has been increasing'), article usage ('on road' instead of 'on the road'), and sentence structure. The student uses mostly simple sentences, and attempts at more complex structures often result in errors, such as 'the speed of camera fines is 200,000 Which is the lowest'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. A wider range of error-free complex structures is needed for a higher band.
