SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 6.0)

First graph depicts the number of over-speeding cases happened in over past eight years. These were caught by speed cameras placed on the roads. However, second graph illustrates the number of death occured due to road accidents, over an eight-year period, after the installation of cameras. below that, there are three tables showing the results of survey about the installation of speed cameras.

Overall, it is clearly seen that fines charged for driving in high-speed than allowed limit is increasing rapidly over time. On the other hand, road accidents fatalities remained constant, all in all. Moreover, in the tables, it is evident that most people believed cameras' introduction does not play any positive role in reducing the number of accidents. A handsome amount of individuals agreed on the reason for installation of cameras is to raise revenue. On the contrary, more that half of the population of survey believed that there are so many cameras are installed on the sides of the roads.

To commence with, there were 200,000 people charged for over-speeding in 1st year, and this number gradually increased to approximately 600,000 in the 5th year. Then, it almost sky-rocketed to 1,600,000 in the span of next three years. Raod accident cases were remained between 3,000-3,500, with a little fluctuations occured in 8 years.

Further analyzing the data, 60% people believed that cameras installation does not have any effect on the reducing the amount of accidents, 32% disagreed with the stance. In another question about the reason behind this introduction got different responses. 71% thought that it is to generate revenue, 26% believed that these are put on the roads to improve road safety, while only 3% people do not have any opinion on this notion. Third question of the survey is about number of camera installed on the roads. It got different reviews, 56% believed that there are too many cameras while, only 19% think that we need more cameras. And, 17% are satisfied with the current amount of cameras.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the key features of the graphs and tables, providing a clear overview of the trends and survey results. You covered all parts of the prompt, including the increase in fines, the stability of fatalities, and the survey data. However, the report would benefit from more precise data selection. For instance, describing the fatality trend as 'constant' is accurate, but you could have highlighted the specific range (3,000–3,500) more effectively. Additionally, ensure that your summary of the survey data is more analytical rather than just listing percentages, as this would better demonstrate a full development of the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'To commence with', and 'Further analyzing the data' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Third question of the survey is about number of camera installed'. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'sky-rocketed', 'fluctuations', and 'revenue'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'over-speeding cases happened' (should be 'incidents of speeding occurred') and 'handsome amount of individuals' (which is not appropriate in this formal context). Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation, such as 'road accident fatalities' vs 'road accident cases'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic collocations and avoiding informal phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'more that half of the population of survey believed that there are so many cameras are installed' (incorrect clause structure) and 'Raod accident cases were remained' (incorrect passive voice usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors with articles and subject-verb agreement throughout the text. While your meaning is usually clear, you need to focus on reducing these recurring errors to achieve a higher score.
