Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task, including the graphs and the tables. However, the data presentation is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the description of the line graph trends lacks precision, and the summary of the survey data is unclear. The overview is present but lacks a clear synthesis of the trends. To improve, ensure that the data points cited match the visual information provided and avoid vague phrasing like 'proportions of masses'. The report addresses the prompt but requires more careful data selection and clearer interpretation of the survey results to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and poor sentence structure. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition' and 'On the other hand', they are often applied mechanically or incorrectly. The transition between the graph data and the table data is abrupt. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'proportions of masses' instead of 'number of people' and 'fined case' instead of 'fines issued'. Spelling errors like 'sightly' (slightly) and grammatical inaccuracies in word forms (e.g., 'people opinion' instead of 'people's opinions') occur throughout. To improve, focus on using precise terminology related to data description and ensure that collocations are accurate. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' will also help.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies on a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'speed camera fines approximately 800,000' and 'it sightly increase'. Punctuation is also problematic, with unnecessary commas and missing articles throughout the text. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the data. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate better control over basic grammatical rules, particularly verb tenses and sentence construction, and reduce the frequency of errors that distract from the content.
