The graphs below show the number of drivers in Britain who have been caught driving too fast by speed cameras placed on roads, and the number of people killed in road accidents, over an eight-year period since the introduction of speed cameras. The tables show the results of a survey on people's opinions on speed cameras.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

The two line graphs compare the amount of speed camera fines and the number of road accident fatalities over an eight-year period. The three pie charts provide information about public opinions regarding speed cameras.

Overall, speed camera fines increased dramatically throughout the period, whereas the number of road accident fatalities fluctuated without showing any clear downward trend. In addition, most people believed that speed cameras were introduced mainly to generate revenue rather than to improve road safety.

At the beginning of the period, speed camera fines stood at approximately 200,000. This figure rose steadily to around 500,000 by year 5. After that, there was a sharp increase, reaching about 800,000 in year 6 and approximately 1.1 million in year 7. The figure then climbed dramatically to around 1.6 million by year 8.

In contrast, road accident fatalities remained relatively stable. They increased slightly from about 3,100 in year 1 to 3,300 in year 2, before falling to around 3,000 in year 4. After several minor fluctuations, the figure ended at approximately 3,300 in the final year.

According to the survey results, 60% of respondents believed that speed cameras do not reduce accidents, while only 32% thought they do. Furthermore, 73% believed the main purpose of speed cameras was to raise revenue, compared with just 24% who considered improving road safety the main reason. Finally, 58% felt that there were too many speed cameras, while 19% thought there were too few and 15% considered the number appropriate.
