Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to adequately report the data provided in the graphs and tables. While it mentions the general topic, it lacks specific data points, trends, or comparisons. For instance, it refers to 'about 3000' fatalities without specifying the time frame or the actual trend shown in the graph. Furthermore, the response ignores the survey table entirely, failing to report the public opinion data. The analysis is overly generalized and does not provide a clear overview of the information, which is a requirement for Academic Task 1. To improve, you must describe the key features and trends using the actual figures provided in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes inappropriate, such as the informal 'let's discuss them in following paragraphs.' Referencing is often unclear, and the connection between the graphs and the survey results is missing. The flow between sentences is mechanical, and the lack of clear transitions makes the report difficult to follow. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus that relates back to the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'rash driving' and 'betterment of speed cameras' are used repeatedly, and the word choice is often imprecise or informal. There is a lack of academic vocabulary suitable for a report. For example, 'culprits' is not the most appropriate term for drivers in this context, and 'round about' is too informal for an academic task. To improve, you should incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to data analysis, such as 'fluctuated,' 'remained stable,' or 'a significant proportion.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with article usage (e.g., 'in different years'), subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'situation has became'), and sentence structure. The range of structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for minor errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms.
