SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Introduction of speed cameras has been a revolutionary step for Britain as modern technology takes place but still the reckless driving culture still does not stop as it can be seen from the graph that during this 8 year period the number of fines only rose year by year. This shows that the traffic violations were still being causes but other graph shows that due to installation of speed cameras the road accident fatalities remained constant and also fell in year 4. According to the survey, people think that speed cameras are not proven to be fruitful as this suggests that speed cameras did not reduce accidents. Further, prople assume that the main reason for installing speed cameras was to raise revenue and not to mantain law and order on roads. Finally, it is also said that the cameras are too many and these much are not needed on roads.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to adequately address the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of providing a clear overview and highlighting key trends or data points from the graphs and tables, the response offers a subjective, opinionated commentary. It fails to describe the data accurately, such as the specific trends in fines or fatalities, and does not synthesize the information from the survey tables effectively. The report lacks a clear structure, failing to distinguish between the visual data and the survey results. To improve, you must objectively report the data, identify significant trends, and avoid personal interpretation or editorializing about the 'reckless driving culture'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is written as a single, dense paragraph, which hinders readability and logical progression. There is a lack of clear paragraphing to separate the description of the graphs from the survey results. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'According to the survey' and 'Further', the overall flow is disjointed. The transition between the data description and the survey findings is abrupt. To achieve a higher band, you should organize your report into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and separate paragraphs for the detailed data analysis and survey results.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'reckless driving culture', 'revolutionary step', and 'not proven to be fruitful' are used in a way that is more appropriate for an essay than a data report. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'were still being causes' (should be 'caused') and 'these much are not needed'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe data trends precisely. You should focus on using more academic, precise terminology related to data analysis, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'a significant increase', or 'a downward trend'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'as modern technology takes place' is an awkward construction, and 'the traffic violations were still being causes' is grammatically incorrect. There is also a lack of variety in sentence structure, with many sentences being simple or slightly repetitive in their construction. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of complex structures is weak. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and using more varied sentence structures, such as using subordinate clauses to link related pieces of information.
