The graphs below show the number of drivers in Britain who have been caught driving too fast by speed cameras placed on roads, and the number of people killed in road accidents, over an eight-year period since the introduction of speed cameras. The tables show the results of a survey on people's opinions on speed cameras.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

The graphs illustrate the number of drivers in Britain who were caught speeding by speed cameras and the number of people killed in road accidents over an eight-year period following the introduction of speed cameras. The tables show public opinions about speed cameras.

Overall, the number of speeding fines increased considerably throughout the period, rising from about 200,000 in the first year to 1.6 million in the eighth year. In contrast, the number of road accident fatalities fluctuated only slightly, remaining at around 3,000 to 3,400 deaths per year.

The number of fines increased steadily from 200,000 in Year 1 to approximately 600,000 in Year 5. It then rose sharply, reaching 800,000 in Year 6, 1.2 million in Year 7 and 1.6 million in Year 8. Road fatalities, however, increased slightly from about 3,100 in the first year to 3,300 in Years 2 and 3. They then fell to around 3,000 in Year 4 before fluctuating and ending at approximately 3,300.

Regarding public opinion, 60% of respondents did not believe that speed cameras reduced the number of accidents, while only 32% thought they did. Furthermore, 71% believed that the main purpose of speed cameras was to raise revenue, compared with 26% who thought they were installed to improve road safety. Finally, 56% considered there to be too many speed cameras, while only 19% thought there were too few.
