SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graphs illustrate the numbers of drivers, who have been caught on cameras for driving too fast on roads, and the number of individuals died in road accidents, over an 8 year period from the installation of cameras. The tables depict the percentages of opinions on speed cameras by the citizens of Britain.
Overall, the percentages of fines for overspeed increased by the end of the period, while the no road accidents fluctuates throughout the period with no significant change.
To begin with, the numbers of fines for overspeed represented upward trend with 200,000 in the 1st year and 600,000 by the end of 5th year. After the 5th year the numbers of fines surged drastically, around doubled of 6th year's fines at 1,600,000.
Turning to, road accidents, the graph showed the same numbers of accidents by the end of period with some fluctuations. In the beginning, more than 3,000 accidents reported which drooped at almost 3,000 in the 4th year and again increased at the same level by the end of period. Most individuals accounted at 60% of Britain thinks there is no any reduction in accidents because of speed cameras and 32% in contrast, while only 8% people don't know. The people who feels the cameras were installed to improve road safety accounted for 26%, while most of the people stood up at 71% feel to raise revenue, and 3% have no idea. The most individuals at around 56% thinks that there are too many cameras on road, followed by 19% thinks too few and 17% and 8% thinks as needed and have no idea respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task, including the line graphs and the survey tables. You have identified the main trends, such as the rise in fines and the fluctuation in fatalities. However, the analysis of the data is sometimes inaccurate; for example, you state that the number of accidents 'drooped at almost 3,000 in the 4th year and again increased at the same level', which does not accurately reflect the visual data provided. Additionally, the description of the survey data is slightly cluttered and lacks a clear synthesis of the most significant findings. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are described with greater precision and that the overview highlights the most striking relationships between the variables.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs for the graphs and tables respectively. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To begin with' and 'Turning to', to guide the reader. However, the flow within the final paragraph is somewhat disjointed, and the use of referencing is occasionally mechanical. The transition between the graph data and the survey data could be smoother to create a more unified report. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuates', 'surged', and 'accounted for'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'no road accidents fluctuates' (which is grammatically confusing) and 'most individuals accounted at 60%'. The phrase 'most of the people stood up at 71%' is also non-standard. To improve, focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensure that your vocabulary choices accurately reflect the data being presented rather than using conversational or imprecise phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'the numbers of individuals died' (should be 'who died'), 'there is no any reduction' (double negative/redundant), and 'the people who feels' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, the correct use of relative clauses, and the omission of unnecessary articles or prepositions.
