SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given line graph demonstrates the number of drivers in Britain caught overs speeding by speed cameras on the road, and the number of people who has been killed in road accidents over in eight years since the cameras has been installed.

Generally, the penalty rate raised dramatically over time, like in the beginning the penalty ratio was at the bottom but overtime it reached to peak touching the value of 1,600,000 and continued. While the road accidents start from 3000 to 3500 and then slightly remain stable but after from last 5 years it showed variations.

Initially the pines were at lowest rate but with the period it can be demonstrated that the over speeding

catch rise and it raised contineusly. It can be stated that the installation of cameras has been failed in reduction of penalties rato.

The road accident rate starts to raise in 3 years but after three years it falls considerably then showed some variation and at the end start rising significantly. From these it can be demonstrated that the rate hasn't been reduced due to cameras.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to address the task fully. While it mentions the line graph, it completely ignores the tables provided in the prompt, which are a required part of the data set. The description of the graph is also inaccurate and lacks precision; for instance, stating that the number of accidents 'remained stable' or 'showed variations' is too vague. Furthermore, the student includes personal commentary ('the installation of cameras has been failed') which is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report, as the task requires an objective description of data rather than an opinion or conclusion on the effectiveness of the policy.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between ideas is often abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes misused, such as 'While the road accidents start from 3000 to 3500'. The referencing is also unclear; for example, 'From these it can be demonstrated' is grammatically awkward and does not effectively link back to the data. The overall structure feels repetitive, and the lack of clear data points makes it difficult for the reader to follow the trends described.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and contains several errors in word choice and spelling. Examples include 'overs speeding' instead of 'overspeeding', 'pines' instead of 'fines', and 'rato' instead of 'rate'. The student relies on basic terminology and struggles to describe trends accurately, using phrases like 'at the bottom' or 'at the end start rising' instead of more precise academic language such as 'reached a minimum' or 'showed an upward trend'. The range is insufficient to convey the information with the necessary precision for an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Subject-verb agreement is a major issue, such as 'number of people who has been killed' and 'cameras has been installed'. The sentence structure is often simplistic or awkward, with errors in tense usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'after from last 5 years'. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are often faulty, leading to a lack of control over grammar and punctuation. The writing lacks the accuracy required for higher bands.
