SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graphs illustrate the number of drivers in Britain who were captured driving recklessly by speed cameras situated on roads, and the amount of individual fatalities in road accidents, over a total period of 8 years from the day of introduction of speed cameras. The table depict results of individual's point of view on speed cameras.
Overall, most of the public believed speed cameras cannot reduce numbers of accidents on the road and they also through their are far too many speed cameras than actually needed while also maintaining a critical opinion saying speed cameras are a way to generate revenue and it has not much to do with improvement of safety for general public. Moreover, the data also seem to support people's point of view.
The amount of revenue generated in the first year of introduction of speed cameras was around 200,000 which kept on gradually increasing till after five years since speed cameras introduction to almost 800,000 suggesting that fines were making government a lot of money as people believed. After 5 years passed away to the introduction of cameras in Britain overall the revenue from accumulated from fines went on a steep upward trajectory till now contributing 1.6 million in funds to the state.
On the other hand, number of deaths caused by road accidents went through highs and lows but such number did not fully decrease due to speed camera installations. Overall death toll started at around 3000 deaths in first year of speed camera introduction and increased to almost 3500 deaths in second year. The fatality number went down a little in 4th year to 3000 deaths but this number seemed to maintain itself till the very end with last recorded death toll to be around 3250.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graphs and tables, but there are significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. You describe the revenue as '200,000' and '800,000', whereas the graph clearly indicates these figures are in millions (e.g., 20 million). Furthermore, you misinterpret the data by stating the revenue reached '1.6 million', while the graph shows 160 million. This misreading of the scale significantly impacts the accuracy of your report. While you attempt to link the public opinion to the data, the analysis lacks precision. To improve, ensure you carefully check the units of measurement on the axes and labels before drafting your report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific data sets. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'After 5 years passed away to the introduction'. The transition between the public opinion section and the data analysis is somewhat abrupt. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the data points more fluidly rather than listing them sequentially.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'trajectory', 'fatality', and 'accumulated'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'captured driving recklessly' (instead of 'caught speeding'), 'amount of individual fatalities' (instead of 'number of fatalities'), and 'passed away to the introduction' (which is an incorrect use of an idiom). These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a need for more precise academic vocabulary and better understanding of common collocations in a reporting context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The table depict', 'data also seem'), missing articles ('in first year', 'to the state'), and awkward phrasing ('they also through their are far too many'). While the meaning remains understandable, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly enhance the clarity and professionalism of your writing.
