Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by describing the trends in fines and fatalities, and summarizing the survey data. However, the analysis is largely a list of figures rather than a synthesis of the data. The overview is weak; stating 'the number haven't reduced' is an oversimplification, as it ignores the specific trends shown. To improve, you should group data points to highlight key trends (e.g., the steady rise in fines versus the relative stability in fatalities) rather than listing every year individually. The survey data is included, but the connection between the graphs and the survey results could be more clearly articulated to provide a more cohesive report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'On the... year'. The transition between the data description and the survey results is abrupt. To improve, use a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect ideas, such as 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' or 'Regarding the survey findings.' Additionally, ensure that referencing is clear; for example, 'the number' in the introduction is vague and should specify which number you are referring to.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is frequent repetition of words like 'people' and 'number'. Some phrasing is unnatural, such as 'over eight years of periods' and 'on the road' instead of 'on roads'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'had broke the rule' (should be 'had broken'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated,' 'remained stable,' or 'witnessed a significant increase,' and avoid repetitive sentence structures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the number haven't reduced', '56% of people thinks'), incorrect preposition usage, and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with missing commas and spacing errors like '7th and8th'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage when describing past data will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
