SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The line graph illustrates the number people in Britain who have been caught driving too fast by speed cameras and fined, and also also the number of road accident fatalities, over an eight-year period. The table illustrates a result of a survey conducted to know people's opinions on speed cameras.
Overall, the number of drivers who fined during the eight-year period increased sharply and the number of road accidents fluctuated slightly. In the table, the majority of people believe that the number of accidents cannot be reduced by speed cameras and the main reason of their installation is to increase revenue. A higher percentage agrees that there are too many speed cameras on the roads.
In detail, the number of drivers paid fine were to about 200,000 in the first year, gradually increased to 600,000 in the sixth year, and then rose dramatically to 1,600,000 number in the last year. In terms of people who killed in the road accidents were just over 3,000 in the first year and slightly fluctuated to 3,500 number in the final year.
Regarding the table, about 60% do not believe that cameras can reduce road accidents. A higher percentage of people agrees that the main reason of camera installation is to raise revenue about 71%. The majority of people think that there are too many cameras on road at 56%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task, including the line graph and the table. You have identified the key trends in the graph and the main findings in the survey data. However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, you state the figures but do not always make clear comparisons between the two sets of data or highlight the most significant features effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a more cohesive overview that synthesizes the information rather than listing it. The data points are generally accurate, though the phrasing '3,500 number' is slightly awkward.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the graph to the table. You use some cohesive devices like 'In detail' and 'Regarding the table' to signal shifts in focus. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the data points more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'illustrated', 'fluctuated', and 'dramatically'. However, there are some repetitive phrases and minor errors in word choice, such as 'the number of drivers who fined' (should be 'were fined') and 'the number of people who killed' (should be 'who were killed'). The use of 'number' is occasionally redundant, such as in '1,600,000 number'. To improve, focus on more precise collocations and avoid repeating the same structures when describing data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist, such as 'the number of drivers who fined' instead of the passive voice 'who were fined', and 'the number of people who killed' instead of 'who were killed'. Additionally, there is a minor error in the opening sentence with the repetition of 'also'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and better control over passive constructions.
