Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address the task requirements effectively. You have not described the data provided in the graphs and tables; instead, you have provided a vague, generalized commentary. The prompt asks for a report on specific trends regarding speed camera fines and road accident fatalities, but you have not mentioned any figures, trends, or specific comparisons from the visual data. The response lacks an overview of the main features and fails to report on the survey results mentioned in the tables. To improve, you must focus on reporting the data accurately, including specific numbers and time periods, rather than offering personal opinions or general statements about road safety.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The organization of the response is weak. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is not logical. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and repetitive (e.g., 'With passage of time'). The introduction is informal and does not clearly set up the report. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'in contrast', 'consequently') to connect your ideas more smoothly. The current structure lacks the necessary flow required for an academic report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts your ability to describe the data precisely. You use basic terms like 'quantity' and 'numbers' repeatedly. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'drivers are challaned' (a non-standard term) and 'overspending' (which refers to money, not speed). To reach a higher band, you need to use more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'a significant increase', or 'a downward trend'. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary will help you describe the trends more accurately and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'their numbers has increased'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple, and there is little evidence of complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods in several places. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and practicing the use of complex structures like relative clauses or passive voice, which are essential for academic writing. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and capitalization is also necessary.
