Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to adequately address the task. While it attempts to describe the data, it lacks a clear overview of the trends, which is essential for an Academic Task 1 report. The information provided is largely a repetitive list of figures rather than a synthesis of the data. Furthermore, the response completely ignores the survey tables mentioned in the prompt, focusing only on the graphs. To improve, you must identify key trends (e.g., the inverse relationship or lack thereof between fines and fatalities) and ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive, such as the constant use of 'at the X year'. The referencing is often unclear, and the transition between the description of the graphs and the conclusion is abrupt. The conclusion itself does not summarize the main features but instead introduces new, vague ideas about 'thinking levels' and 'possibilities' that were not clearly established in the body paragraphs. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic words like 'fine', 'number', and 'year'. There is little attempt to use academic vocabulary or synonyms to describe trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable'). Additionally, there are numerous spelling errors such as 'oof', 'aslo', 'dsicuss', 'furtherly', and 'spped', which hinder readability. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to data description and proofreading your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammar is significantly flawed, with frequent errors in sentence structure, punctuation, and article usage. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'we have a numbers oof drivers that are drive the cars'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the reliance on simple, repetitive patterns makes the writing feel disjointed. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. You need to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for grammatical accuracy before attempting more complex structures.
