SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The provided pair of line graphs compare the speed camera fines along with the road accident fatalities over an eight year time period after the security cameras were introduced while the list of surveys conveys the information about three main questions.

Overall, the speed camera fine can be seen continuously increasing overtime while the fatalities of road accident can be seen to be consistent without major ups and lows. Also, the answers given by population are clearly mentioned in the survey with exact percentages.

Looking at the former line graph, it can be seen that speed camera fines increased continuously from the first data year with 200,000 units to 800,000 units in the sixth year, then a sharp incline can be seen with which the fines reached the peak of 1,000,000 units in the last year. While the road accident fatalities remained consistent as they ranged between 2,000 to 2,500 units across all the given years.

Although, looking at the answers of survey it can be seen that 60% of the people do not believe that speed cameras has helped at all as only 32% agree while 8% are confused. Rising revenue is considered as the main objective for the process of installation of speed cameras as 71% of the population agrees with so . In addition, the numbers of speed cameras are considered too many by 56% of the people while the reaming data explains the remaining else.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the key features of the graphs and the survey data. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with specific data points, such as the 200,000 to 1,000,000 increase in fines. However, the report lacks a cohesive synthesis between the two data sets; the connection between the rise in fines and the public opinion on revenue is mentioned but could be more explicitly linked. Additionally, the phrase 'the reaming data explains the remaining else' is vague and fails to report the final survey findings effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure all data points are clearly described without resorting to filler phrases.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Looking at the former line graph' and 'In addition' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the use of 'Although' at the start of the final paragraph is grammatically incorrect as it does not introduce a subordinate clause. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the final sentence of the report is weak and lacks cohesion with the preceding information.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'incline', 'peak', and 'fatalities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'ups and lows' is not standard academic English; 'fluctuations' would be more appropriate. The phrase 'the answers given by population' is missing an article, and 'the reaming data explains the remaining else' is awkward and imprecise. Expanding your range of academic collocations and ensuring precise usage will help improve your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For instance, 'speed cameras has helped' should be 'have helped' (subject-verb agreement), and 'agrees with so' is non-standard. There are also punctuation issues, such as the unnecessary space before the period in 'agrees with so .'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles.
