Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the task but fails to include the survey data mentioned in the prompt, which is a significant omission. The overview is present but lacks clarity, and the description of the trends is somewhat inaccurate; for instance, the claim that fines were 'least in first year of road accident' is confusing and does not clearly relate to the data provided. The description of the trends is also quite repetitive and lacks the precision required for a Band 6 or higher. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are covered and focus on identifying key features rather than listing every data point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and poor transitions. Phrases like 'Followed by this' and 'Moving further' are used mechanically and do not always connect ideas effectively. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the data. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks the cohesion needed for a higher score. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the readability.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'fined to drive too fast' instead of 'fined for driving too fast' and 'miner increase' instead of 'minor increase'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends accurately, relying on basic terms like 'grow' and 'increased'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary for describing data, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and work on collocations to avoid unnatural phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with verb tense consistency, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'speed camera fines was'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'firstly it seen as their was death cause'). The use of complex structures is limited and often results in errors. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of basic grammatical mistakes prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors like articles and prepositions would be beneficial.
