SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The graphs represent eight years data of people living in Britain who had been caught over speeding by speed cameras. The data also shows the number of individuals who lost their lives in road accidents. The tables shows the percentage of people's opinions on speed cameras.
During the eight year time period the amount of fine has drastically increased, starting from 200,000 in the first year to an overwhelming 1,600,000 in the eighth year. Growth of the fine amount from the sixth till the eighth year was extremely elevated as compared to the increase from the first till the sixth year which is moderately elevated.
On the other hand, deaths from road accidents had stayed almost the same, starting from the first year which were just above 3,000 had stayed just a little over then that be the last year. A slight dip in the fatalities can be seen in the fourth year, slightly lower then 3,000 death in that year.
Results from the survey show that 60% of the participants think that speed cameras had not proven to reduce road accidents, while 32% believe that it has reduced the accidents and 8% have no idea about it. Participants were also asked about the reason behind installation of speed cameras, shockingly 71% believe it is to raise revenue, 3% didn't knew and only 26% believed installation is due to safety reasons. The last question in the survey was about the number of speed cameras on the roads, 56% said they are too many, 19% said very few, only 17% responded that number of speed cameras are fine, while 8% don't know.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the key features of the graphs and tables. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with data from the charts. However, the report lacks a cohesive summary or synthesis of the relationship between the variables. For example, you mention the increase in fines and the stability of fatalities, but you do not explicitly link these to the survey results regarding public opinion on effectiveness. To reach a higher band, ensure you compare the data points more effectively rather than just listing them. The description of the trends is accurate, but the analysis could be more insightful by highlighting the contrast between the rising number of cameras and the public's perception of their efficacy.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific aspect of the data (trends in fines, fatalities, and survey results). You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand' and 'During the eight year time period' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the survey findings could be improved by using more varied linking phrases to show the contrast between the different survey questions. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. You use terms like 'drastically increased', 'overwhelming', and 'revenue' appropriately. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'eight years data' (should be 'eight years of data') and 'over speeding' (should be 'speeding'). Additionally, phrases like 'moderately elevated' are slightly unnatural in this context. To improve, try to use more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include 'The tables shows' (subject-verb agreement), 'didn't knew' (incorrect tense after auxiliary), and 'lower then' (should be 'lower than'). There are also minor punctuation and preposition errors, such as 'over then that be the last year'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
