SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given line graph illustrates the road fatalities and number of drivers who have been found guilty of over speeding caught by camers installed on the roads over the span of 8 years. There is a tabular representation of outcomes of a survey conducted on public’s opinion on speed cameras.

Overalll, the over speeding penalities gradually increased till the 5th year post insertion of cameras and then the trend spiked till the year 8th. However, number of road accident fatalities kept fluctuating over the given time. Majority of the public considered speed cameras as a project of raising revenue and this that they have failed to reduce the road acidents and considered them to be numerous.

There have been a significant surge in penalities that were made by speed cameras for crossing the speed limit over the given time. The trend initiated with 200,000 fines in the first year of camera insertion and spiked to 1,600,000 over the period of 8 years. 60% localities found speed cameras ineffective in controlling over-speeding and only 32% found them to be helpful. However, the trend in road fetalities kept oscillating over the period of 8 years capping its number between 3,000-3,500.

A majority of about 71% resonated its opinion considering installation purpose of speed cameras was majorly to raise revenue and only 26% people believed that integration of cameras were made for road safety. Number of cameras divided the public’s opinion as well as 56% people considered them to be too many, only 17% found them in right strength and 19% believed the number is too less.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have successfully identified the key features of both the graphs and the tables. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with data from the visuals. However, the report could be improved by better integrating the survey data with the trends. For instance, you mention the rise in fines and the public opinion on revenue, but you could more explicitly link these to the lack of a corresponding drop in fatalities to provide a more analytical summary. Overall, you covered all parts of the prompt well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However' and 'Overall', which help the flow. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the connection between the survey data and the graph trends could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though some sentences could be linked more effectively to avoid a list-like feel.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, including terms like 'oscillating', 'resonated', and 'integration'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'over speeding' (should be 'overspeeding'), 'camers' (cameras), 'acidents' (accidents), and 'localities' (which is used incorrectly to mean 'people' or 'respondents'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on precise collocations will help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'there have been a significant surge' (should be 'has been'), 'this that they have failed' (unclear phrasing), and 'only 17% found them in right strength' (should be 'at the right level'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that slightly disrupt the flow. To improve, ensure subject-verb agreement and check for missing articles or prepositions.
