Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by describing the trends in speed camera fines and road accidents, as well as the survey results. However, the reporting of data is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For example, the student states that road accidents were 3000 in year 4, which is a significant misreading of the graph (which shows approximately 30,000). Furthermore, the overview is weak; it merely states that fines are 'trending' without highlighting the key contrast between the rising number of fines and the relatively stable number of fatalities. The data presentation is somewhat mechanical, listing figures rather than synthesizing the information effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is hindered by the repetitive structure of the sentences. Each sentence starts with a time reference or a data point, making the flow feel list-like rather than analytical. Cohesive devices are minimal and often misused, such as 'Where as' used at the start of a sentence to contrast data. The paragraphing is present, but the transition between the graph data and the survey data is abrupt. The use of referencing is also weak, with some sentences lacking clear subjects or logical connections to the previous points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic verbs like 'recorded' and 'says'. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'crossing speed limit by Britain drivers' instead of 'speeding violations by British drivers'. The phrase 'people,s perception' contains a punctuation error. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'fines' and 'fatalities', the overall range is insufficient to convey complex ideas with precision. The spelling of 'thay' for 'they' and the inconsistent use of commas also detract from the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., '60% says No', '71% says to raise revenue') and article usage. Punctuation is often incorrect, particularly with the placement of commas and the use of apostrophes in 'people,s'. The sentence structure is often fragmented or awkward, such as 'Speed camera fines of year 7 and 8 rise as 1200,000 to 1600,000'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's ability to follow the data points clearly.
