Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The candidate has attempted to cover all parts of the visual data, including both the graphs and the tables. However, there are several data inaccuracies and misinterpretations. For instance, the statement that 'between two to six years time over 800,000 people have been fined' misreads the progression on the line graph. Furthermore, the overview is rather simplistic and does not fully synthesise the main trends across the multiple charts. While the response presents the key information, the lack of precision in reporting figures and the vague overview prevent it from reaching a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The report is structured into five paragraphs, roughly following a traditional task 1 format with an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific data sets. However, paragraphing is somewhat disjointed, and the logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by mechanical or repetitive referencing, such as starting multiple sentences with 'People's opinion on...' or 'There are...'. Cohesive devices are basic and sometimes misused, leading to a choppy flow of ideas that requires the reader to work harder to follow the narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for describing basic trends, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'Britains' instead of 'Britons', 'drovve' (spelling error), 'casualty number', and 'raising funds' instead of 'raising revenue'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to the prompt, but inaccuracies in word choice and spelling detract from the overall quality of the lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'which results into getting fined', 'Road accident fatalities was', and 'on the eight year'. Pluralisation is also handled incorrectly in places like 'numbers of casuaties'. While these errors do not completely obscure the intended meaning, they occur with enough frequency to impede smooth reading.
