Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address all parts of the prompt, including the charts on speed camera fines and fatalities, as well as the survey tables. An overview is provided, stating that fines increased while accident fatalities remained relatively constant. However, the data points selected contain several inaccuracies and misreadings of the graphs. For instance, the initial number of fines is stated as 200,000, and later figures are expressed as 'lac', which is non-standard in international English and confusing. The description of accident fatalities is also flawed, claiming the rate is 3,500 after 8 years while misinterpreting intermediate trends. Furthermore, the summary of the tables contains errors, such as claiming 56% say 'too much cameras needed' rather than reflecting the actual category of 'too many' cameras. Overall, while the task is attempted, the inaccurate data reporting limits the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is divided into four short paragraphs, attempting to follow a logical structure from the graphs to the survey tables. However, progression is frequently hindered by awkward transitions, abrupt shifts between ideas, and poor cohesive referencing. For example, sentences like 'Furthermore, number of accidents increases and decreases in the eight years' lack smooth logical connections. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph which crams multiple distinct survey results together in a mechanical and telegraphic manner. Cohesive devices are generally inadequate or incorrectly applied throughout the text, leading to a choppy reading experience.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The lexical range is limited and frequently inappropriate for an academic task report. The student relies heavily on basic vocabulary and incorrect lexical choices, such as 'caught drivers' instead of 'motorists fined' or 'penalised drivers', and uses non-standard terms like 'lac' instead of thousands or millions. Collocations are often unnatural, as seen in phrases like 'goes increase' and 'full repid increase fines'. There are also several lexical errors in reporting the survey data, such as 'does not agreed' and 'too much cameras'. These errors cause noticeable strain and difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying primarily on simple sentence structures and faulty attempts at complex forms. There are frequent and persistent errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and word formation. Examples include 'because driving fast that is noted by speed camera', 'number of fines goes increase', 'fine people 200,000', '60% of people does not agreed', and 'too much cameras needed'. Punctuation and article usage are also weak. These frequent grammatical errors cause significant disruption and require the reader to decode the intended meaning.
