The graphs below show the number of drivers in Britain who have been caught driving too fast by speed cameras placed on roads, and the number of people killed in road accidents, over an eight-year period since the introduction of speed cameras. The tables show the results of a survey on people's opinions on speed cameras.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The graphs depict the number of drivers who have been caught rash driving and number of people being killed in road accidents in an interval of eight year since the speed cameras were introduced in Britain. Likewise, it incorporates the results of survey conducted on people's opinions on speed cameras.

Overall, the number speed camera fines kept increasing from initial year to the eighth year whereas road accident fatalities has less fluctuation in numbers.

Starting with 200,000 camera fines from first year, numbers slowly increased up between 400,000 to 600,000 till fifth year. However, significant rise was observed between sixth year to eight year reaching the speed camera fines approximately around 1.6 million. Similarly, road accident fatalities remained almost constant between 3,000 to 3,500 with a slight decrement in the fourth year.

From the results obtained from people's opinions on speed cameras survey, it was observed that around 60% civilians think speed cameras doesn't contribute to reduction of road accidents, whereas 32% people said yes and remaining 8% were unaware. Likewise, 71% people believe main reason for the installation of speed cameras is to raise revenue, whereas 23% think its for improvement of road safety and 3% don't have an answer.

Similarly, when asked about quantity of speed cameras on the roads, 56% of the people said too many were present on the road unnecessarily, 19% opposed to too few, and 17% think its about right whereas 8% of the people have no idea about the numbers.
