Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The candidate attempts to cover all parts of the input data, mentioning both graphs and the survey tables. However, the report lacks a clear overview and fails to provide specific numerical data from the charts, such as the initial and final figures for fines and fatalities, or key trends over the eight-year period. Instead, the response relies on vague descriptions like 'speed camera fines by drivers who have been caught driving fast' and describes the fatality trend merely as 'a little disapointing'. Furthermore, the reporting of the survey statistics contains copying from the prompt rather than a synthesized summary. To reach a higher band, the student needs to select key features, group data logically, and present specific figures with a clear overall trend summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response shows a basic attempt to structure the report into paragraphs, separating the introduction, the trends, and the survey results. However, the overall organisation is weak and lacks clear progression. There is a lack of effective cohesive devices; sentences are loosely linked with basic punctuation or run-on structures, such as starting the third sentence with 'As the first graph shows ... on the other hand we have another graph...'. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with the main body lumped into excessively long, unmanageable blocks of text, particularly the lengthy sentence detailing all the survey percentages without a break. Referencing is sometimes unclear, which hinders the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and heavily reliant on words lifted directly from the prompt, such as 'speed cameras', 'road accident fatalities', and 'survey'. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'developement', 'vehicals', 'threatning', 'lifes', 'governement', 'dicrease', 'disapointing', 'numbre', and 'safey'. The lexical range is narrow and inadequate for an academic task, showing little ability to use less common vocabulary or paraphrase effectively. Word choices are sometimes unnatural or inaccurate, which occasionally strains the reader's interpretation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The writer attempts some complex structures, but these are frequently faulty and accompanied by basic grammatical errors. There are issues with sentence boundaries, resulting in run-on sentences and comma splices, such as the opening sentence: 'along side with the developement of vehicals , cars accident become a serious problem threatning people's lifes.' Punctuation and capitalization are generally poor throughout the piece (e.g., lowercase letters at the beginnings of sentences and after full stops). Subject-verb agreement errors ('cars accident become') and preposition misuse ('along side with') are common. Error frequency is high, though meaning can usually be discerned with some effort.
