IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The tables show the results of a survey on people's opinions on speed cameras.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.
SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The provided data outlines the trends in speed camera fines, roac accidents fatalities, and public opinions on speed cameras over an eight year period of britain following the instruction od these enforement devices.
Overall, it is clear that while the number of drivers fined for speeding experienced a daramatic increase, the tota number of fatalities resulting from road accidents saw a gradual, slight decline. Public consensus mostly highlights the effectivness of speed cameras, particularly in reducing accidents.
Looking first at the metrics , the number of speed camera fine surged significantly over the eight-year span, climbing sharply from just above 1,000,000 in the initial year to nearly 1,800,000 by year eight. In contrast, road accidents fatalities exhibited a doward trajectory.
Regarding public perception, a large majority od survyed individuals agree that the speed cameras are valuable. A significant percantage of respondents believe that camera helps reducing road accidents, whereas a minimal proportion view them purely as mechanism for government revenue generation

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover all parts of the task by describing the trends in speed camera fines and road accident fatalities, as well as summarising the survey data. However, there are significant factual inaccuracies in the data interpretation. For instance, the student states that the number of fines 'climb[ed] sharply from just above 1,000,000 in the initial year', whereas the graph shows starting at 200,000. Furthermore, the student claims road accident fatalities exhibited a 'gradual, slight decline' and a 'downward trajectory', which contradicts the provided graph where fatalities actually rose from around 3,150 to 3,350 over the period. Finally, the summary of the public opinion tables is largely inaccurate: over 60% of respondents stated that speed cameras do *not* reduce accidents and 71% believe the main reason is to raise revenue, yet the student claims public consensus highlights their effectiveness and value. These misreadings mean the response falls below the higher bands. Band score: 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The report has a basic overall structure, divided into an introduction, an overview paragraph, a body paragraph for the charts, and a concluding body paragraph for the survey data. Paragraphing is attempted appropriately. However, referencing and logical progression are occasionally flawed due to the inaccurate data claims. Cohesive devices are used to link sentences (e.g., 'Overall, it is clear that...', 'Looking first at the metrics...', 'In contrast...'), but the mechanical or repetitive nature of some transitions, combined with numerous referencing and spelling errors, limits the flow. Cohesion is present, but overall progression suffers from the data misinterpretations. Band score: 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic task, using terms such as 'trends', 'metrics', 'trajectory', and 'perception'. However, there are frequent spelling errors ('roac', 'britain', 'instruction', 'od', 'enforement', 'daramatic', 'tota', 'effectivness', 'doward', 'survyed', 'percantage'), which detract from the overall quality. Additionally, some collocations are inaccurate, such as 'helps reducing road accidents' instead of 'helps to reduce' or 'helps reduce', and 'mechanism for government revenue generation'. While an adequate range is attempted, the density of spelling and word-choice errors restricts the score. Band score: 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including subordinate clauses (e.g., 'while the number of drivers fined for speeding experienced a dramatic increase...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak due to missing articles (e.g., 'over the eight year period of britain'), punctuation errors (missing spaces after commas), and subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'the speed cameras are valuable'). There are also awkward prepositional phrases (e.g., 'over an eight year period of britain following the instruction od these enforement devices'). While the meaning can generally be extracted, frequent errors persist throughout the text. Band score: 5.0.
