Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the 150-word minimum, containing only 131 words, which significantly impacts Task Achievement. Furthermore, the description of the visual data is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence in the final paragraph. While the writer attempts an overview and mentions some key trends—such as the rise in fines and the stable fatality figures—the information is presented with inaccuracies (e.g., misreading the scale for fines and stating fatalities stayed between 3000 and 3500 when they actually ranged from roughly 3,100 to 3,350). The data from the tables is barely touched upon before the text ends abruptly. To improve, the student must complete the entire task, cover all parts of the prompt including the survey tables, and ensure word count requirements are met.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay attempts a logical structure by dividing the introduction, main graph trends, and survey data into paragraphs. However, the paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the final paragraph cuts off incomplete. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes awkward (e.g., 'From the first glance', 'On the further analysis'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of completion severely disrupts the overall flow and progression of ideas. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to use a wider range of cohesive devices naturally, ensure clear paragraph transitions, and fully develop each point rather than stopping mid-thought.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, with frequent word choice and collocation errors. Examples include 'high speed cars by drivers', 'got ticket for overspeed', and 'death rate by road accident'. There are also awkward phrasings like 'since introduce these cameras till 8 years'. The student attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as 'fatalities' and 'fines', but inaccurate forms and limited control over less common lexical items prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, the student should focus on accurate word formation, collocations, and precise vocabulary related to data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response shows a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors in tense, preposition use, and sentence construction. Examples of errors include 'The data has been given since introduce these cameras till 8 years', 'number of over speeding cars had more then double', and 'road accident fatalities had constant all the time stayed'. These frequent errors frequently strain the reader and obscure meaning. To improve, the student needs to practice complex sentence structures, ensure correct verb tenses for describing past data, and review basic grammatical agreements and word forms.
