Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover all parts of the task by describing both the line graphs and the tables. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting and misinterpretation of the visual data. For instance, the student states that road accident fatalities recorded 3,000 in year 1, whereas the chart shows approximately 3,150. Furthermore, the description of the survey tables contains confusion between percentages and the categories themselves (e.g., stating that two-thirds thought cameras did not reduce accidents when the table actually indicates 60%). While an overview is attempted, it is somewhat confused and inaccurate. Overall, the task is addressed only partially, placing it at Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is organized into four paragraphs, following a logical layout with an introduction, body paragraphs for the graphs and tables, and a brief overview. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. The transitional phrases used, such as 'Regarding to the line graph' and 'As per table', contain unnatural prepositions and awkward phrasing. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall progression within paragraphs lacks smooth links. Paragraphing is present, but the relationships between sentences can be disjointed, leading to a Band 5 performance for this criterion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but contains frequent errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. Examples include 'briain' (Britain), 'operators' (drivers), 'captured' (caught), 'digital cameras' (speed cameras), 'facilities' (fatalities), 'incline' (increase), 'cetagory' (category), and 'read safety' (road safety). While the student attempts some less common terms, the high frequency of spelling mistakes and inaccurate lexical choices impedes readability and restricts the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in prepositions and sentence structure, such as 'Regarding to the line graph' and 'the highest number of people think speed cameras not reduced the road accidents'. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistent, with missing capital letters for proper nouns like 'briain'. Although meaning can usually be discerned despite the errors, the frequency of grammatical slips places this response firmly at Band 5.
