IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The graphs below show the number of drivers in Britain who have been caught driving too fast by speed cameras placed on roads, and the number of people killed in road accidents, over an eight-year period since the introduction of speed cameras. The tables show the results of a survey on people's opinions on speed cameras.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The given graph and table gives the information of number of car fined for overspeeding captured by speed camera and the number of people met with road accidents and also the survey result of people on the perspective upon the camera. The information given is over eight-year period.

To begin with, at first 200,000 cameras were installed on roads, followed by 300,000 in the next year. Continuous increment in the number of camera was observed from the 3rd year to 6th year with the number of 400K, 500K, 600K and 800K respectively. In the last two year it shows a massive jump around 1.2M in 7th year and 1.6M in the last year.

In addition, the number of people with accident was overall a steady figure, first year shows with around 3,000 people and in the next two year reach 3,300 and get to 3000 in the 4th year. Till the 8th year the number doesn’t change much at last reported around 3200.

The table is the result of survey which tells that 60% of people do not agree that accident reduce after camera installed and only 32% agree. Moreover around 71% think the reason of installing camera was to have revenue and to improve good safety way only thought by 26% people. 3% do know either any reason. Also, 5% people think there were too many camera and 19% thought cameras were too low, while 17% thought they were in right number.

However, there are notable word choice errors and unnatural collocations throughout the text, such as 'number of car fined', 'people met with road accidents', and 'good safety way'.
