Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the prompt, addressing both the graphs and the tables. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, stating that fines increased steadily while road accidents had minor fluctuations. Key features are selected, such as the initial and final figures for fines and fatalities, as well as the main survey results like 71% believing cameras raise revenue. However, the data points are occasionally imprecise or vaguely described, such as stating fatalities reached 'around 3,500 people' in an 8-year span. Despite minor inaccuracies in data reporting, the main trends and the survey categories are sufficiently covered, fulfilling the basic requirements of Task Achievement at this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, following a logical layout for an Academic Task 1 report: an introduction, an overview, a body paragraph for the graphs, and a body paragraph for the survey tables. However, progression is somewhat hindered by mechanical cohesive devices and repetitive phrasing (e.g., 'To begin with', 'The survey also given in last'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'The number of speed camera is 56% people think', which disrupts smooth flow. Paragraphing is present and separates the visual data from the survey data appropriately.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for describing trends, including words like 'rapidly inclined', 'steadly', and 'revenue'. However, there are numerous spelling errors ('illutrates', 'kileed', 'british', 'steadly', 'canges', 'furthermover', 'individulas') and awkward word choices ('speedy driving', 'road accident ratio'). Less common vocabulary is attempted but often inaccurate. These lexical errors and misspellings occasionally cause strain for the reader, restricting the score to this band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak throughout. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions (e.g., 'the graphs illutrates', 'the number of people who get fined increasing', 'people gives opinion', 'install camera for raod safety'). Punctuation is also problematic in places, with missing commas and run-on structures. While communication is not entirely obscured, the high density of errors prevents the achievement of a higher band.
