Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the task by reporting key data from both the graphs and the tables, although some data points are inaccurate or poorly expressed. For example, the student writes that the number of fines rose from 'about 200000 to year 8, about1600000', which is accurate, but the description of road accident fatalities contains inconsistencies, claiming '3200 road accident fatalities were their which most remained the same over the years to 3400 in 8th year'. The overview mentions a constant increase in fines and steady figures for accidents, and summarises the survey results broadly. However, the data selection could be more precise, and the incomplete final sentence ('...while only a few believe that they don not k') leaves the response slightly unfinished. This performance fits the Band 6 descriptor well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The report has a logical overall arrangement, dividing the description between the line graph trends and the survey results. Paragraphing is attempted, with a separate paragraph for the graph details and another for the survey data. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'First of all,' 'However,' and 'Consequently.' Referencing is occasionally unclear, and logical progression is disrupted by sentence-level errors and the abrupt ending of the essay. Nonetheless, the reader can follow the overall structure of information presented.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe trends and percentages such as 'constant increase', 'dramatic increase', and 'proportion of 60%'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'unpleasent' instead of unpleasant, 'their' instead of there, 'reviwed' instead of reviewed, and 'saftey' instead of safety. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are evident, but these inaccuracies and occasional awkward collocations limit the score to a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The table represents the the results of people's opinion on the speed cameras' and 'the people who believed that there was no reduction in accidents after speed cameras accounted for the highest proportion of 60%'. However, grammatical errors are frequent, including article misuse ('the the results'), subject-verb agreement issues, and spelling-related grammatical confusion ('don not no', 'don not k'). Punctuation is also faulty in places, such as comma splices and double spacing. These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.
