Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all parts of the visual data, including the line graphs and survey tables. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, noting the contrasting trends of increasing fines and stable fatalities, alongside survey highlights. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, the student states that in year 1 around '20,000 amount has been collected' whereas the chart shows 200,000. Additionally, the final survey percentage is misreported as '59%' instead of 56%. Despite these data misreadings, the main trends and survey results are touched upon, leading to a Band 5.5 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is structured into four paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, body details, and survey results. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor transitions and run-on sentences, such as the opening sentence which crams multiple ideas together without adequate pausing. Cohesive devices are minimal or misused, and referencing is sometimes unclear, for example shifting abruptly between subjects. Paragraphing is present, but overall cohesion is mechanical and weak, fitting Band 5.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and repetitive. The student uses basic vocabulary such as 'amount', 'increase', and 'people'. There are frequent word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'citizen killed in road fatality', 'fine charge', and 'the fine that are charges'. Spelling and morphological forms also show noticeable errors, such as 'reuce' and 'sawn'. While meaning is generally conveyed, the errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, placing this at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The essay displays a very limited range of sentence structures, with frequent grammatical errors. Simple sentences predominate, and attempts at complex structures are often faulty, such as 'as in year 1 around 20,000 amount has been collected which sawn a 8x fines as after 8 year 1,600,000 fine is collected.' Tense consistency is poorly maintained, moving between past, present, and present continuous improperly. Errors in subject-verb agreement and pluralisation (e.g., 'amount of drivers', 'list of question') are frequent and often impede fluency.
