SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The graph compares the speed camera fines and road accident fatalities in UK over an eight-year period since the installation of speed cameras, while the table illustrates public comments on speed cameras.
Overall, the fines witnessed an upward trend, whereas road casualities showed fluctuation over the given period.Of particular note, majority of the britians were against the introduction of speed cameras.
Looking first at speed camera fines, the figure initially stood at approximately [redacted phone] in first year, before witnessing a gradual increase ton [redacted phone] in sixth year. This was followed by a period of sharp increment with the figures eventually reaching 1.6 million by final year. However, unlike fines, road accidents showed fluctuations, starting at around 3000 and ending at the same numbers.
Turning to the survey, sixty percent of the total thought speed cameras played no role in reducing accidents compared to 32% who thought the opposite of it. Similarly, 71% voted that speed cameras were installed to raise revenue rather than to improve road safety. Meanwhile, 56% of the people thought there are too many camers on the roads.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by covering both the graphical trends and the survey data provided in the tables. A clear overview is provided, highlighting the upward trend in fines, the fluctuations in fatalities, and the general public sentiment. Key data points are selected and reported accurately, such as the initial and final figures for fines and the percentages for survey responses. However, there are minor typos in data reporting, such as missing zeros for '200000' and '800000', but the overall representation of the data remains clear and fully meets the requirements for Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall progression and is logically organised into paragraphs. The introduction successfully paraphrases the prompt, followed by an overview paragraph, a body paragraph dedicated to the graphs, and a final body paragraph discussing the survey results. Cohesive devices are used appropriately to guide the reader through the data, such as 'Looking first at speed camera fines', 'This was followed by', and 'Turning to the survey'. Paragraphing is used effectively, though occasional minor slip-ups in referencing occur, supporting a solid Band 7 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow for flexibility and precision when describing trends, using terms such as 'upward trend', 'fluctuation', 'gradual increase', and 'sharp increment'. Less common lexical items are attempted, although there are some word-choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'britians' instead of 'Britons', 'casualities' instead of 'casualties', and 'camers' instead of 'cameras'. Nevertheless, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and does not impede communication, placing the response firmly in Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating subordinate clauses and comparative structures effectively. Examples include 'while the table illustrates public comments' and 'compared to 32% who thought the opposite of it'. There are several grammatical and mechanical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('in UK', 'by final year', 'in first year') and numerical formatting slips. Despite these errors, the majority of sentences are understandable, and communication is rarely impeded, warranting a Band 6.
